#DHS had restricted #immigration enforcement at “sensitive locations” for years. With some exceptions, agents had to obtain special approval for enforcement actions in certain places, including #schools, #hospitals, #churches & other places of #worship; #funerals, #weddings & other #religious ceremonies. In 2021, that list expanded to include other #HealthcareFacilities, #playgrounds, #SocialService facilities & #emergency response sites.

Mask Up Now by @siderea

"If for some reason you stopped masking everywhere, now would be an excellent time to resume masking, and use a N95/KN95 or better.

I have a longer post in the works, but am getting overtaken by events. I've gotten multiple reports that there's waves of some serious unidentified flu like illness(s) hitting areas hard enough to shut down schools and fill hospitals."

I can add an anecdata from a friend who's a respiratory therapist; she recently said she's been working as hard as she was during the first days of COVID. We live nowhere near any of the areas mentioned in siderea's post.

British-Palestinian doctor Ghassan Abu Setah said that the Israeli occupying authorities view the destruction of the healthcare system in the #Gaza Strip as preliminary preparation for a plan of #genocide.
...He added that “Israel did not only target buildings but also destroyed 33 out of 36 #hospitals that were providing services throughout the region.”
The doctor saw the importance of prosecuting Israeli officials, soldiers, and politicians in The #Hague for their destruction of the #healthcare system in Gaza, saying, “Otherwise, every future #war will follow the model of Gaza, as the destruction of the healthcare system played a central role in the management of the war.”

Since October 2023, Gaza's healthcare system has been under relentless attack, with medical workers becoming primary targets. Hospitals are barely functioning, with critical resources and specialists in short supply. Many ambulances have been struck and destroyed and humanitarian physicians trying to enter Gaza have faced harassment and restriction at the border, often fearing for their safety.

The World Health Organisation #WHO has recorded over 600 attacks on #healthcare facilities in #Gaza and the killing of more than 1,000 medical workers, with no accountability. In one case, the Israeli military raided Kamal Adwan Hospital, detaining staff and setting fire to the building.

"Despite these documented abuses and the international community calling for thorough investigations, to this day, not a single person has been charged for any crime against #hospitals in the enclave."

For no good reason I was thinking about our daughter's long stay in the psychiatric hospital.

There were a lot of patients on the ward (possibly about 2/3) who never got any visitors.
Where were their families, spouses, parents, children? Not to mention freinds?

The ward staff were delighted that our daughter had visits and support from her parents, brother, neices and work-collegues - she was certainly the exception among the patients.
I like to think that our support helped in her recovery, I definitely think it made her stay there more bearable.

If you know of someone receiving long term hospital care - psychiatric or otherwise - please don't abandon them. Make an effort. It won't always be easy, but doing good isn't always the easy road.

#HHS can influence whether #hospitals provide #abortion in emergency situations. The Biden admin issued guidance saying that #EMTALA’s requirements that hospitals provide emergency medical care also mean hospitals should provide abortion in cases where a woman’s health or life were at risk. Sen Cortez Masto asked #RFKJr if he believes that EMTALA protects a woman’s right to have an emergency abortion if her #health is threatened, in the case of an incomplete miscarriage, for example.
