I believe the piecemeal approach of (not only) the "Agile" Alliance to OpenSpace Techology (OST) comes from a fundamental lack of understanding of the basics. The Law of Mobility is an integral part of OST, and has always been (it's been called The Law of Two Feet, at first).
The issue with "Open Space" being (mis)used in "Agile" circles is that it is rarely centered around a "burning question" that participants want or need to see answered. A question that was used to call them together, that attracted people to come and join in, in search for answers. The degenerated form of "Open Space" mostly practiced at "agile" events is more or less a Bar Camp instead, where participants share something interesting from their respective world, in their sessions.
I understand why this malpractice can result in a "meh" sentiment towards #OpenSpace.
