Our second port of call on our Royal Princess cruise in 2016 was to Kotor in Montenegro. Set at the end of a bay it's a truly stunning part of the world to see. After we'd tendered ashore from the ship we took a boat trip back out along the bay and first stopped at an artificial island created over the centuries by dropping rocks or sinking boats with rocks in the water from about the fifteenth century onwards following "a vision." A small church sat on the islet with a small museum and art gallery. This was Our Lady of the Rocks. Whether religious or not, it's still a gloriously peaceful place to be in the middle of the bay with spectacular mountainous landscapes all around.

#OTD in 1794.

The rebuilt Theatre Royal, Drury Lane, in London, designed by Henry Holland, opens to the public.

Actress Sarah Siddons, then part of the Drury Lane company, called it "a wilderness of a place". Not only was any sense of intimacy and connection to the company on stage lost, but the very size of the theatre put a great deal of the audience at such a distance from the stage so as to make hearing a player's voice quite difficult.
