Many people who do #BikeTouring with the #Brompton take their folded bike into grocery stores, at least while on tour to not have to leave anything outside. Last time I was doing a multiday tour¹, I was wondering if using a bicycle trailer would make things easier or worse. I recently saw a nice video of #IBikeUnfolded: He takes his bicycle trailer and bike into stores (explanation starts at 6m18s):

This #2017 #summer I chose to do a 300km (600km round-trip) #cycle #commute (to a wedding!) from #quebeccity to the #Laurentians because it's way more fun, costs less and it's better than burning fuel. And when people ask me where I sleep, well, #camp in the #woods on the side of the road. Almost forgot, I love biking uphill...always a rewarding ride after.

Not long after leaving Taourirt, we noticed a car following us again. It was almost funny how they tried to make it seem like they weren’t—driving slowly behind us, then stopping to let us gain some distance, only to start following us again. It was the police. I heard that in this region, it’s quite common for them to keep an eye on travelers.
Dark clouds surrounded us, and in the distance, we could see freshly fallen snow on the mountains ahead—a breathtaking sight against this arid desert landscape.
At the next gas station, we stopped for a tea break and noticed that the car following us suddenly turned around and left—probably because we had exited their area. Exhausted from cycling against the wind, we looked for a place to rest but found none, so we decided to keep going.
The storm seemed to be moving in and daylight was fading, we reached a crossroads where we would turn toward Midelt and the mountains. We stopped at a small roadside restaurant for tea and food and asked the owners if we could camp in their garden. They were very kind and welcomed us to stay.
Soon, a different policeman arrived. He was very friendly and asked if we needed anything. When we told him we planned to sleep in the garden, he instead arranged for us to sleep inside the restaurant. He even gave us his phone number in case we needed anything during the night.
We drank more tea and waited for the restaurant to close. Once it did, we set up our sleeping spot on the first floor, grateful for the warmth and shelter.

Nearly finished planning a couple of weeks cycle touring in Ireland. Really looking forward to the trip. Leave is booked for the last two weeks in May. I was lucky at this time last year with sunshine and blue skies pretty much everyday riding from Kent to Orkney via Cape Wrath. Whatever the weather it's going to be an adventure.

If you have any recommendations or tips to share about the route please do.

Three days of sailing against the wind today it should be better. With my bags being effectively sails it is really hard, even downhill I had to pedal to not stop on the spot. I had average speed about 10kph.

Worst part is that it was pretty smooth road without cars. And what piss me most is my cycling computer saying that I slack off when it calculates its "performance index". There isn't any setting for heavy bike, when I tried to put there 30kg it was invalid entry.

So my plan to get inland to avoid the wind failed.

So, I never did a proper #introduction because I am not in to those things, but after browsing the hashtag for few days I decided that maybe this is the time to make my own post.

So I am guy in 20's and mainly interested in #homebrewing #brewing and #cycling

More specifically I started brewing my own #beer when I was 15, because it was the easiest way to get alcohol at that time. It became my hobby, I moved to #cider only because I couldn't get decent one in store. And after that I worked in #craftbeer brewery.

As for #cycling I am interested in #bikepacking #biketouring #commuterbike and more of a utilitarian cycling. Right now I am touring through Europe on my bike and because I don't have anything other to do I will be doing that for about 6 months.

Sometimes I post in Czech, sometimes in English and I also repost from #lemmy where I moderate @homebrewing

@ascentale @pete #BikeNite A4: For #BikePacking / #BikeTouring I take my usual, 20 years old and heavy but trusty Trelock U lock (successors at trelock.de/en/product-category), usually residing at the bottom or towards the back of my Brompton front bag — I initially bought it for my Radius Hornet recumbent. I don't have any other locks and I use it as seldom as I do while commuting or quaxing with the Brompton since I take it with me where ever I go, be it inside a shop or into my tent. 😇

The first little town we cycled through today was 'Entre Lagos', yes like 'Interlaken' super fun 😅. There was a large supermarket where we quickly took a tour to look around and to buy some fresh vegetables and fruits. The overall selection was surprisingly large, and the coffee shelf gave us hope 😎. Our goal for the day was a campspot by the Rupanco Lake. A few kilometers before our destination, we overtook a young Japanese man on his loaded bike. Marc showed him where we were heading and invited him to spend the evening with us. We reached the lake and a viewing platform with a view to the four volcanoes on the other side of the lake — the sight was beautiful 🤩 The wooden platform was right next to the road, but it was perfect for us to stay. The Japanese man, Osugi, joined us shortly after and also decided to camp on the platform. We had a fun evening with him. The next morning, we pedaled dry-footed to the little village of 'Puerto Octay.' We had actually planned to take a room there to wait out the three upcoming rainy days. Unfortunately, there were no rooms available in our price range, so we continued cycling late afternoon despite the rain. The 30 kilometers we had to cover to get to Frutillar were quite challenging. The 530 meters of elevation gain were divided into 7 steep ascents. It was a fight until we finally reached the village after 8 PM in complete darkness. A hostel owner couple tried to rip us off, charging double the price advertised on the booking platform. We refused, even though it was already night and it was still pouring rain. Eventually, we found a small apartment where we were greeted very warmly and where we could dry all our wet stuff 😊 —> 8 📸 in this post #cycling #bikepacking #biketouring #cyclinglife #patagonia #chile #nature #naturephotography
🥳 Whoop, whoop, whoop for us! 🎉
We hit the amazing milestone of 25,000 km
❤️🌎🚴‍♀️🚴🌎❤️

Early in the morning, traffic began to flow again, but the night was very quiet, almost no cars passed by due to the closed border. For breakfast, we had chickpeas (same for lunch, since we still had no fresh food 🙃) and of course a cup of coffee ☕️ —After nearly two months in Argentina, we finally found a decent drinkable coffee in Villa la Angostura. Now, in Chile, the search for good coffee starts all over again... It's really a frustrating act to find good ground coffee! 🧐
In the few rays of sunshine through the tall trees, we dried the damp tent and set off. The route took us through a landscape that reminded us to 100% of Switzerland. Lush green meadows filled with Simmental cows and a large variety of plant and tree species. It felt really good. I noticed with joy how many different plants were growing there, like ferns, dandelion, other green plants with huge leaves, various deciduous trees, red and yellow blooming trees and bushes only to list some of them...
In Argentinian Pampa there were just thorny acacias, eucalyptus and poplar trees in the villages, and in Northern Patagonia finally also pine trees, Arrayàn trees, the famous Chilean pine (Araucaria) also called the monkey puzzle tree and many bright yellow-flowering broom bushes...

Finally, we found a spot in the shade for our late lunch break. This mushroom-shaped rock is gigantic, isn’t it?
Once again, we had a nice conversation with a friendly bird. We fed it a pre-chewed almond 😅 and in the end, it even gave us an amazing concert with all its ever known diverse sounds, noises, and melodies. Yes, we’re really into birds right now 🐦 🥰

In the afternoon, we passed by more and more special rock formations and outstanding natural sculptures.
We then made our way down narrow serpentine roads until...
